Skills for life

Skills for life

It takes a skill to handle social influence and pressure; it is not something you are born with.

It takes a skill to know how to manage yourself and have strong social skills.
These are skills that can be taught and learnt.

I promote that these skills are a very important part of education from a young age.

Motivation and care (True story)

I had the privilege and honor of attending a presentation by a wonderful motivational speaker in Cape Town.  His audience was about 500 young recruits from the police academy. He motivated his audience to want to achieve more for their own lives. Explaining that he was a regular man who had a dream and pursued his dream until it became a reality.

The reality is we want success and happiness for ourselves and our children

What really impressed me was that once the presentations were over the senior police officers stood up and spoke to the young recruits from their  hearts and this is what they had to say.

Love your children, when last have you hugged your kids?
When last have you spent time with them?
When last have you praised them?
They need loving fathers and mothers who show they care.
Instill good values in your family life, treat people with respect.
Show you care, not just with words.

I sat there deeply touched by these wonderful leaders who know the importance of reaching out and making a difference.

We have so much to share and we can make a difference to those around us.
Let our lack of knowledge or skill not stop us but encourage us to find out more and pursue our dreams and help others to build their dreams.

A little excercise that you can do - It's fun  (Have a piggie bank - can be a tin or jar - every time you say something kind, do something for someone - put a coin or letter in the piggie bank - (You are making emotional deposits - good deposits) so that when you need to with draw - when you're impatient or say an un kind word - you will notice that you have (Hopefully) made more deposits than withdrawals. In this way we get to see the impact we have in others lives.

"Persistence isn't using the same tactics over and over. That's just annoying.

Persistence is having the same goal over and over."

Seth Godin
